Albino Carroga, aka, Papa Bino, born on October 16, 1938 in Samassi, Italy passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. His daughter, Cristina and great grandson, Matteo were by his side.

Albino was a free spirit. He left Sardegna as a young man driven by a desire to experience the world beyond his home. Papa Bino’s free spirit brought him on adventures such as backpacking across Canada with friends, then going to New York City on a whim where he would later start his family. He raised his daughters in New York and later in Massachusetts. His love of travel would eventually take him all over the United States and even to South America!

During his retirement, Papa Bino spent several months a year making memories in Tennessee with his daughter, Daniela and her family. In recent years, he enjoyed traveling back to Italy with his daughter, Cristina and his great grandson, Matteo.

Albino had the exceptional talent of being able to build anything. His love for creating never stopped, as he continued to build and do various projects around the house just days before he passed. He truly was a phenomenal man and talented artisan who found a tremendous passion in creating unique pieces of work. Papa Bino had a love of cooking and appreciated good food, artisanal items of all kinds and anything antique or historic. He enjoyed being active outdoors gardening, walking, camping and swimming at the lakes or sea.

Papa Bino was a champion in his own right, so naturally he followed and supported only the greatest sports teams in history, such as, the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox, and his beloved soccer team Juventus.

Albino was preceded in death by his dear granddaughter, Tori Lena Smotherman. He leaves behind his daughters Cristina Carroga and Daniela Smotherman; his grandchildren Monica, Ariana, Cedric, and Michael; his great grandchildren Matteo, Cali, and Calissa; and his siblings Anita, Emma, Nando and Giuseppe; along with many other family and friends both in Italy and in the United States.

Memorial services will be held at
Boston Cremation, 287 Main St,
Malden, MA on Friday, September 24th from 9-11AM.

The family is also in the process of planning to have a memorial service and the burial of his ashes in Sardegna, Italy.

 

Albino Carroga, da tutti conosciuto come Papa Bino, nato il 16 ottobre 1938 a Samassi, Italia, è
deceduto serenamente nella sua abitazione il giorno martedì 14 settembre 2021. Sua figlia, Cristina
e il pronipote Matteo gli sono stati a fianco con amore fino alla fine.

Albino era uno spirito libero. Aveva lasciato la Sardegna da giovane, spinto dal desiderio di
scoprire il mondo e fare esperienza al di fuori della sua isola. Il suo amore per l’avventura lo spinse
in escursioni fino al Canada con i suoi amici, e poi d’istinto si stabilì a New York City, dove mise le
basi della sua famiglia. Allevò le sue figlie prima a New York e poi nel Massachusetts. Mosso dal
suo amore per i viaggi, visitò tutti gli Stati Uniti e perfino il Sud America!
Nel periodo del suo pensionamento, Papa Bino passava vari mesi all’anno in Tennessee con sua
figlia Daniela e la sua famiglia. In questi ultimi anni amava tornare in Italia con sua figlia Cristina e
il pronipote Matteo.

Albino era dotato di un talento eccezionale, era in grado di costruire qualsiasi cosa. Questa passione
non lo abbandonò mai, continuando a costruire e portare avanti vari progetti per la sua casa fino a
pochi giorni dal decesso. Era veramente un uomo fenomenale e un artigiano talentuoso, in grado di
creare oggetti straordinari e assolutamente unici. Papa Bino amava cucinare ed era un fine
intenditore del buon cibo, apprezzava i manufatti artigianali di ogni tipo e amava gli oggetti storici
o di antiquariato. Coltivava con passione il suo giardino, ma passava anche molto tempo a
camminare, campeggiare e nuotare nei laghi o nel mare.

Papa Bino era un grande appassionato di sport, e seguiva e sosteneva solo le squadre più importanti
della storia, come i Bruins, i Celtics, i Patriots, i Red Sox, e ovviamente la sua amatissima squadra
di calcio Juventus.

Albino è stato preceduto nella dipartita dalla sua cara nipote Tori Lena Smotherman. Lascia nel
dolore le figlie Cristina Carroga e Daniela Smotherman; i nipoti Monica, Ariana, Cedric e Michael;
i pronipoti Matteo, Cali, e Calissa; le sorelle Anita ed Emma, e i fratelli Nando e Giuseppe; lo saluta
anche un gran numero di famigliari e amici sia in Italia che negli Stati Uniti.

La cerimonia funebre si terrà a
Boston Cremation, 287 Main St,
Malden, MA, venerdì 24 settembre dalle 9 alle 11 del mattino.

La famiglia sta anche organizzando una seconda cerimonia funebre, con sepoltura delle ceneri, in
Sardegna, Italia.
