Barbara R. Nowacki
Barbara R. (Pettes) Nowacki passed away peacefully on August 18, 2018 at the age of 88 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading MA, after a short illness.
Barbara was born in 1930 in Orlando FL, to Beatrice (Lerch) Pettes and Herbert Pettes. She grew up in Florida and New Hampshire. She married Leo T. Nowacki in 1956 and they made their home in Chelmsford MA.
Barbara graduated from Plymouth State College (now Plymouth University) and began her teaching career in Connecticut. After her retirement from teaching, Barbara eventually split her time between Northport, FL and Wells, ME. Throughout her life Barbara was passionate about art and teaching artistic skills to children. She was also an avid flower gardener and enjoyed singing and dancing.
Barbara is survived by her daughters Marianne of Mesa, AZ; Carol of Winchester, MA and her husband Bahaa Fam and son Dylan; and her son Mark of Wilmington, MA and his wife Susan Stewart. Her husband Leo predeceased her in 2000. Additionally, Barbara is survived by her sisters Carolyn Wheeler of Vermont, Marilu Haggett of Florida, and Nancy Johnson of Virginia. One grandchild, Laura, and three other sisters have predeceased Barbara; Elizabeth, Jean, and Marjory.
The children will welcome friends and family for a condolence reception to the Andover Country Club, 60 Canterbury St., Andover, MA, on Saturday, August 25th from 1:00-3:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s name to the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, Gift Processing Center, 41 Mall Rd., Burlington, MA 01805 to support the care of their gardens.
