Barbara Rose (Nuccio) Raftery


Barbara Rose (Nuccio) Raftery – November 28, 1942 – April 13, 2020

Barbara was born in Boston, grew up in East Boston and then moved to North Reading with her parents, Salvatore Joseph Nuccio and Rose (Lamberti) Nuccio and three siblings, Maryann (Nuccio) Arvanites, who preceded her in death (April 13, 2008), Joseph Nuccio, and Louis Nuccio. Barbara married John M. Raftery, Sr. in 1961 and had four children, Mary Lisa Raftery, John M. Raftery, Jr., Joseph Raftery, Sherri Raftery-Patton. She has three grandchildren (Mary) Cecilia Melendez and Nito Melendez, Joey (Joey Raftery Jr. and Patrick Raftery, (Sherri) Sabrina Raftery DiCato – Great-grandson – Desmond Perez.

Barbara resided in Everett for years and had many friends. She also helped managed one of the Sacro Properties, Glendale Apartments on Broadway where she was also a resident for 15 years.     I love you Ma, I will miss you. Now you will be comforted with NaNa, PaPa, Aunty Mary, Uncle Johnny, Cousin Christopher (Chrissy). I wish I could have done more, but we will have a celebration of your life at a later date. Can you believe you passed on the same date as your sister MaryAnn – 12 years later? Dad has Covid-19, contracted it from the nursing home. Sabrina has a baby boy Desmond (my grandson!). Keep them laughing up there, as I know you will. I love you. Your “Sherri-Baby” (that is what you always called me).
