Bruce S Neilsen

Bruce Stuart Neilsen of Boston, age 75, passed away on December 20, 2022 after a long-term battle with chronic illness.  Born and raised in Norwood, Bruce had a love for playing hockey. He enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage in Dennisport.  He was a graduate of Norwood High School, Class of 1965.  After his graduation, he attended the Butera School of Art in Boston, graduating in 1968.  In the summer of 1968, he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, VA on the Newport News.  He spent time overseas with the Navy during the Vietnam war.  

Upon leaving the Navy, he worked at the Ambrose Press in Norwood for many years.  In 1977, he moved to Boston and began a career as a DJ and bartender at a local bar for over 20 years.  Bruce loved everything about the performing arts, even educating his dear friend, Audrey, in all things in the entertainment world.  He resided in the heart of the theater district in Boston.

Bruce was predeceased by his father, Preston Neilsen and his mother, Helen Wilson Neilsen.  He is survived by his brother James Neilsen and his wife, Laura, of The Villages FL., his nieces, Lynne Baeta and her partner, Phil Dwyer, of Falmouth and Julie Guerrini and her husband, Michael, of Foxboro.  He is also survived by his nephews, Jim Neilen and his wife, Debby of Ashland and Jeff Neilsen and his wife, Joyce of Wilmot, NH.  He was the great uncle to TJ & Heather Baeta, Madeleine, Rachel & Alexandra Neilsen.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff  at the Brockton VA Hospital, Building 4, Wing B1 for their incredible care of Bruce. Please consider a donation in Bruce’s memory to your local Veterans Association.

A service will be held at a later date at the Bourne National Cemetery.

    I was saddened to learn of Bruce passing but realize he is at peace after all his struggles. My thoughts go out to the family and especially to his brother, Jim. Much love to all, Edie

    I’m so sorry to learn of Bruce’s passing. I have many great memories of us growing up together with Barry, Jay and Bobby. Lynn has always been kind enough to share how Bruce was dealing with his difficulties and she showed him great compassion. Bless them both
