Carmella “Dolly” Ward
Carmella “Dolly” Ward
Dolly Ward, age 86, of Medford, MA, passed away at home on Monday, May 18, 2020 after a battle with cancer.
Dolly was originally from East Boston and raised her family in Medford after marrying the love of her life, Colin Odell Ward, of Mississippi, who she met at a roller skating rink in Boston while he was stationed here in the Navy. This quiet country boy and outgoing city girl were married for 64 years and truly exemplified what true love was all about, especially during her final months when her every need was met by Odell. He was her primary caregiver and went above and beyond to provide her with the best care possible 24/7. Up until her final hours, she was still calling out his name.
Family was #1 in her eyes, and her wish was always that we stick together above all else. It was very apparent during her final days that her wish for us had definitely come true. Dolly’s passion was shopping, especially for bargains! If she liked it and it was a good deal, she bought it … whether she needed it or not! And when she brought home more clothes than she could ever use, Odell just made her another closet! She was definitely a “fashionista”, a title that she proudly earned back in her high school days as well. She was known for always looking fab! She was vivacious and loved to dance, and had a way of making everyone feel special. She most especially loved her scratch tickets and occasional slot machines! And she was a worrier, about anything, but especially the safety of her family. We now have our Angel in Heaven to watch over us all, and have no doubt we will feel her presence throughout our lives.
Dolly is survived by her husband Colin Odell Ward, and children, Jolene Valdez of Medford; Rita Spataro and her husband, Philip, of Middleton, MA; Glenn Ward and his wife, Dianne, of Tewksbury; and David Ward and his wife, Ellen, of Tewksbury; as well as 7 grandchildren who loved their Nana immensely! Alana Valdez; Matt and Jake Spataro; Michael and Meghan Ward; and John and Jared Ward. And one adorable great-granddaughter, Grace Ward, who she took much joy in spoiling every chance she could get. She is also survived by a brother, Alfred Puopolo Jr. of Salem, MA, and was predeceased by her father and mother, Alfred (Phil) and Josephine Puopolo of Everett, MA. She will also be missed by many extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please buy a scratch ticket in Dolly’s memory, and if you hit big, thank Dolly. She would love that!
