David Emil Schwartz, 97, of Rochester, died May 26, 2015. Born in Rochester to the late David and Alma (Bergstrand) Schwartz, he was married to the late Jung Shik Kim formerly of Seoul, Korea. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Dingle of Reading, MA and beloved grandchildren, Evan Dingle and Sarah Dingle, family friend Sean Coleman and nieces Barbara Sullivan, Cathy Corts and Nancy Gefell of Rochester, NY and their families. David retired from the US Army as a Master Sergeant in 1972 after twenty six years of service and tours of duty in Korea, Germany and various US posts. He also served in WWII, Korean and Viet Nam wars. A member of the 25th Infantry Division based in Cu Chi, South Viet Nam, among his many commendations are the Bronze Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal w/1st OLC, Army Commendation Medal w/3d OLC, Republic of Vietnam Honor Medal 2d class, and the Good Conduct Medal 8th Award. A dedicated sports fan of the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees, David also played football on the 1937 Irondequoit Merchants semi-professional team, in the early days of professional football. A memorial gathering with military honors will be held Saturday, August 1, at 11am at Durand Eastman Park at the Olive and Buckthorn shelters off Log Cabin Road. Friends, family and neighbors are welcome to honor David’s life.
