Dennis L. Outwater (1942-2025)

Dennis L. Outwater died peacefully on January 24, 2025.  He was born in Inglewood, CA in 1942 to Kenneth and Frances Outwater. After graduating from Inglewood High School, he went on to earn a B.A. from UC Berkeley and then studied philosophy and religion at the University of Chicago where he earned B.D., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. In 1969, he became a member of the Philosophy Department at Suffolk University, where he taught for 39 years. He inspired many students by merging philosophy, psychology, and religion with the beauty of the natural world. The classroom discussion often continued at a local Beacon Hill bar with passionate debates about the meaning of life. Beyond teaching, his zeal for real estate development saw him build unique homes integrated into their natural surroundings in MA, NH and FL. Taking solo hikes in the Grand Canyon, working in his garden, and flying kites with his grandchildren brought him great joy. Dennis leaves his wife of 57 years, Donna (Jamgochian); his son, Alex of White Plains, NY, and his daughter, Jessica Benedetto (Bernard) of Marblehead, MA; his grandchildren Haley, Evan, Ella, Cole; and Haley’s and Evan’s mother, Meredith of Katonah, NY. He also leaves his brother, Richard, of Scottsdale, AZ, and his sister, Nina of Amery, WI, along with many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life and remembrance will take place when the flowers bloom once again. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dennis’ memory to the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org) or to Care Dimensions Hospice (https://www.caredimensions.org/).
