Captain Edward Curtis Bryant, of Ipswich, died peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice in Haverhill, MA at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Ellis Bryant, his sister Bertha Murphy of Bethlehem, PA, his children Ellen Aulson of Lusby, MD, Curt Bryant of Rowley, MA, and Kim Watson of Montpelier, VT, his two step children Carrie Burns of Farmington, CT, and Daron Jacobs of Pembroke MA, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Diane in 1968. Captain Bryant was born in Albany, NY on October 23, 1925 to Wilbur Bryant of Paxton, MA and Hilda Lauritzen of Denmark. After moving to Winthrop, Ma and graduating high school at age 18 he joined the US Navy in 1943. Serving in Guam, he retired from the Navy in 1946. He graduated from Boston University and worked there for several years before moving with his family to Boxford, MA and going to work at Masconomet High School as a guidance counselor. Moving to Rockport he continued his career as a guidance counselor at Rockport High School. Capt Bryant joined the Coast Guard reserve in 1958 until he retired as a Captain in 1992. For over 21 years he served as a Blue and Gold Officer for the Naval Academy for the state of Massachusetts. His professional associations were many including North Shore Guidance Director President from 1996 to the present. Having moved to Ipswich MA, his community activities included the Ipswich Rotary Club and the Board of Fellows for Norwich University. Captain Bryant’s military awards over his 34 years of service were many including the USCG commendallion Medal, the USCG Achievement Medal and the USN Meritorious Unit. Funeral services will be held at the First Congregational Church, 1 Meeting House Green in IPSWICH, MA on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow at the 1640 Hart House, 51 Linebrook Rd, Ipswich following the service. Interment will be on Monday, October 5, 2015 at 9:00am at the Village Cemetery on Georgetown Road in Boxford, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Diane Bryant Memorial Scholarship Fund, Masconomet High School, 20 Endicott Road, Boxford, MA., or The First Congregational Church, 1 Meeting House Green, Ipswich, MA.
