Elizabeth “Liz” Scharps Griffith, 88, of Burlington, MA died peacefully at home on July 6, 2022.  She was the devoted mother of Jeanne T. Griffith.  

Born in New York City on November 22, 1933, Elizabeth was the daughter of Andrew Scharps and Kathryn (Frank) Scharps. She attended Scarsdale public schools, before earning her bachelor’s degree in Art from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York in 1955. After graduation Liz worked at M. Lowenstein & Sons Inc., in New York City. Elizabeth and John Griffith were married in 1960 in Scarsdale, New York. Following the birth of their daughter Jeanne, the family moved to Poughquag, NY, where they lived for many years.   

Her most satisfying vocation was teaching art to Senior Citizens in New York’s Hudson Valley. She was also an avid collector of antiques, antique dolls, and art.  Elizabeth enjoyed singing in the choir of the Poughquag United Methodist Church as well as with local folk group Druid Moon.  Throughout her life Liz supported the arts, environmental causes and adored all creatures great and small.  

Besides her daughter Jeanne and boyfriend Ted Hines, Elizabeth leaves her nephew Jim Griffith of New York City; nephew Glenn Griffith and his wife, Ellie of Crystal Beach, FL; great nephew Clyde Griffith; great niece Alison Savage. The family wishes to thank the Care Managers at Sunrise of Burlington, MA for their kind care of Elizabeth during her final years.
