Francesca Cannella


Francesca Cannella (87), Of Quincy, Ma passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, March 13, 2023. She is now reunited with her late husband Luigi Cannella. Francesca was born in Aragona, Sicily, Italy in 1936. She was the fifth of six children. Her siblings being the late John Gandolfo of New York, the late Stella Seminario of England, the late Carmela Nicastro of Quincy, Caterina Cacciatore of Quincy and Rosa Carubba of France. Francesca and Luigi brought their family to America in 1966 aboard the SS Leonardo da Vinci. They eventually settled in Quincy with great hopes of offering their children a better future.

In addition to being a home maker Francesca worked a number of jobs including working at Howard Johnsons, and Roche Bros in Quincy. It was not uncommon for customers to seek her out because of her friendly smile and of course her knack for organization.

Like the true Italian woman that she was, her favorite things to do with her time included gardening, cooking and spending time with her family. Family was of the utmost importance to her. Francesca loved to go on special vacations, especially to Italy and Disney. She was a hard working and adventurous woman who will be dearly missed by her family.

She leaves behind her four children, Maria Dunlea and husband Michael, Domenica Skarbinski and husband Jay, Maddalena (Lina) Kolbinsky, and husband Dennis, and Fortunato (Frank) Cannella. She had 5 grandchildren Elizabeth Ryan and husband Barry, Michael Dunlea Jr., Kristina Skarbinski and husband Ryan Flanders, Victoria Skarbinski, and Amanda Kolbinsky and one great grandchild, Gianna Ryan.

Visiting hours held from 3-7pm on Monday March 20, 2023 in Boston Cremation at 116 Franklin Street Quincy, Ma, 02169. Her funeral Mass will be Tuesday March 21, 2023 at 10AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 550 Washington St. Quincy. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations in her honor to the American Heart Association or Mass General Brigham. Corrigan Minehan Heart Center

    I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My husband and I used to see your mom at Roche Bros. On Saturdays she was lovely women. May she rest in peace with God Our Father and her loved ones.
