Geraldine “Gerry” (Walsh) Battista
Geraldine “Gerry” (Walsh) Battista of Fitchburg, MA died peacefully on May 30,
2021 at the Life Care Center in Leominster, MA. Gerry was predeceased by her
husband of 50 years Massimiliano “Muss” Joseph Battista. She was born on
1/19/1932, in Taunton, MA, was a long-time resident of Quincy, MA, lived in
Kennett Square, PA for six years before moving to Fitchburg, MA where she has
been living since 2010. A graduate of Attleboro High School, she worked as a
secretary at Bellavance Jewelry Co. in Attleboro before she was married. She
worked at Quincy City Hospital in the payroll department for 20 years until her
retirement.
Nanny, as she was affectionately known to her family, loved sports
and watching her grandchildren play their various sports was one of her greatest
joys. She was an avid Red Sox fan, never missing the opportunity to watch a
game. Nanny’s other passion was knitting. On any given evening you could find
Nanny with her ginger ale and her snack of chocolate covered pretzels, sitting
with a knitting project in her lap, watching baseball, basketball or football. In the
past few years, her knitting has been focused on making baby blankets for her
future great grandchildren.
Gerry, is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Merrill
and her husband Pete of Fitchburg, MA. and Teresa Sheehan and her husband
Tom of Kennett Square, PA. She has seven grandchildren, Mary Sheehan and
her fiancé Mike Tosto, Tommy Sheehan, Neil Sheehan and his fiancé Mairead
Kean, David Sheehan and his fiancé Tayla Hough, Jeffrey Merrill, his wife
Jessica, Nick Merrill and Joe Merrill. She recently welcomed her first great
grandchild into the world, Everett Ryan Merrill.
All are invited to attend her funeral Mass on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 11:00am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 1 St. John’s Place, Attleboro, MA 02703. Burial will be private.

always fond memories of “ auntie Gerri “ lots of fun on Bartlett st. and on vacations and holidays as young kids ! one fond memory was celebrating her birthday at that lovely restaurant in Concord a few years back ! haven’t seen her recently but she was always a pleasure to be around and treated me like family always ! RIP Gerri xo ❤️ sending much love and sympathies to all of her wonderful family .
What can I say about my favorite Aunt in the whole world. I guess they’re all enjoying a beer and a high ball tonight! Finally together again. ❤️
