Gimmie Sue Valacer

Gimmie Sue Valacer age 64, of Middleton, MA passed away peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2017 at The Kaplan Family Hospice House.

Gimmie Sue grew up in the metropolitan Detroit Area. She graduated in 1970 from Lake Shore High School. She moved around the country, making people laugh, and creating lifelong friendships wherever she went. After marrying in 1984, she settled in Middleton MA where she would take on the roles of a stay at home mother, life long volunteer, fundraiser, and real estate agent.

Gimmie Sue was passionate about many things, the most important of these being her faith and family. She possessed an ability to make others feel understood and important; never missing an opportunity to help those in need. As a wife, mother, volunteer, and real estate agent she touched many lives.

Gimmie championed a wide variety of projects in the schools and community. For some time she was best known as the penny lady spearheading the annual penny challenge at both elementary schools, raising over $25,000 for Middleton PTO enrichment projects. She spent much of her time as head of the School Committee Board improving the Middleton school system and curriculum. Year after year she was the loudest witch at the pumpkin festival, helped at the winter festival and chief wills day, volunteered with the cub scouts, taught CCD, and donated her time at Haven for Hunger. Gimmie’s passion for improving children’s lives drew her to chairing the Friends of the Flint Neighbors-In-Need Program. The program helps Middleton families and children in need, so that over 100 children each year receive just what they want for Christmas. Gimmie truly cared for each of these children, the residents of Middleton, and so many others.

She leaves behind her husband, Don Valacer, son Alex Valacer, daughter Jessica and husband Daniel Bolt, her sister Margaret and husband John Pietrzak, her brother Frank and wife Carmen Murphy, as well as nieces, nephews, and numerous friends who were like family.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held April 12th at Union Church in North Reading, MA at 10 am. The In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Friends of The Flint Santa Fund, Flint Public Library PO Box 98, Middleton, Mass (AKA: Neighbors in Need).

I hadn’t seen Gimmie Sue for many years, but have fond memories of High School with her. The comments here echo the feelings all of her LakeShore family friends have of our time growing up with her. The world is a sadder place without her!!

A beautiful lady, a lovely soul… the tribute above captures her so well. She touched many people and did so many things for our wonderful town; she had a unique gift for bringing the best out in people, leaving no one behind. She aligned the stars and the moons in order to make it possible for me to purchase my home. For years, I looked forward to that October phone call “Sistah, Sistah… it’s that time of year!!” she’d cackle in her witchy voice as she called out for volunteer witches for the hayrides. No sooner was the Pumpkin Festival done when she was onto the holidays reminding us what the true meaning of the season was about. The heavens have called back an angel and we are all very blessed to have had her walk among us, even if far, far to brief of a time. My heart and prayers are with you Don, Jessica & Don and Alex…

I went to school with Gimmie Sue, her being a year ahead of me but she welcomed me as a friend. She made us all laugh and one time I had a broken heart because of a first love and that crazy, funny, woman made me laugh till I almost peed my pants. She healed me! We got to laugh about that not long ago in our Facebook messenger. I haven’t seen her in 45+years but with all these beautiful words about shows that young beautiful teenager never changed except to become stronger and more charitable than before. There may not be many witches in heaven but knowing Gimmie Sue, she will find them and entertain many. Rest in peace lovely lady, you will be missed by many.

It was such a long time ago, but that memory is so sweet. She also shared that we are sisters in Christ. One day we will be reunited for eternity. What a wonderful day that will be! To Gimmie Sue’s family, you have my deepest sympathy. May God comfort you and give you peace.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of the loss of Gimmie Sue. During the years I knew her at Fuller Meadow, she was an incredibly energetic and dedicated woman, always looking for another way to provide new fun and entertaining learning activities for the students in the Middleton Schools, always supporting efforts to improve learning for each and every child. When she visited the schools as the Penny Lady her joyous voice would reverberate down the hallways, and you could hear the happy voices of the children as their excitement echoed back. I also remember her love and commitment to her own children and family–her personal and public lives tightly intertwined. She was an exceptional woman. I’m sorry for her loss.
