Hannah Hughes

Hannah Hughes age 17 of Norwood Massachusetts (Residing in Brockton Massachusetts) passed away quietly with her parents Chris and Lynne by her side on Sunday January 26th 2020 at 12:26am.

Hannah was born in Norwood and lived there with her parents Chris and Lynne and her older sister Jessica until she moved to Brockton to take residence in a school for children with special needs in July 2012 where she lived until her passing.

Hannah was always active and her smile brightened everyone’s day. She was born with a genetic deletion which made her life different to that of most children. She attended a mixture of regular school and special needs classes in Norwood. At the age of 6 she started a profound regression in which she lost the ability to speak and many of her other skills. At the age of 7 she started as a day student at May Institute in Brockton which offered an educational program more suitable to her needs.

Throughout her life Hannah always remained gentle and happy. She had a lovable disposition.

Hannah was able to experience many things in her life. She went to Disney World twice, where she especially enjoyed the extreme rides and loved meeting and hugging the Disney characters. She visited England and France several times where she had family. She loved the water and enjoyed the pool and the beach. When she was younger she loved flying down the water slides at Coco Keys. She did horse riding for two years and loved it especially when the horse trotted. She went whale watching and enjoyed running at high speed around the boat. Hannah was happiest when she was free to roam. Her party trick was to spot the escape exit and make a break for it.

Hannah was a frequent flier at Massachusetts General Hospital. She had regular appointments and several admissions especially as she became more medically complex in later years. Despite everything she always managed a smile in the end.

Hannah was the much loved daughter of Christopher and Lynne and cherished sister of Jessica. She was the beloved granddaughter of Alan and Pamela Hughes and Sylvia Kerrison.

We will be having a private celebration of Hannah’s life with immediate family.

2020 has been full of losses for me. This one hit me different. From day one assisting Hannah, I understood how different she was and how beautiful of a soul she kept. We shared laughs and frustrations daily as we grew as people mentally and physically. Hannah taught many of us patience and brought to many of us alot of joy. The undying spirit end energy she had to adventure will always be remembered in my heart and will always fuel my personal endeavors. My condolences go out to her Father Chris who was and still is an amazing Dad and to her mother Lynne and her sister as wel as the rest of her family. May her soul rest and her spirit live forever in our hearts.
