Judith Ann (Kelley) Picone

Judith Ann (Kelley) Picone, of Marblehead, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on Thursday, May 25th, 2017 at the Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers. Judy (71) was born in Salem, Massachusetts on September 19th, 1945, to the late Tom Kelley and Elsie (Townsend) Kelley. Judy is survived by her daughter Tammy Picone Nohelty, her son-in-law Richard Nohelty of Marblehead MA, their two daughters Lauren and Kaitlyn and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Joan (Kelley) Duteau and brother, Paul Kelley.

Judy was born and raised in Salem, Massachusetts and graduated from Salem High School in 1963. She later went on to receive an Associate degree from North Shore Community College in 1987. For over 30 years, she worked as a banquet coordinator at the Hawthorne Hotel and in her free time, she actively volunteered at Beverly Bootstraps.

Judy loved spending time by the ocean, choosing to divide most of her life between her two favorite ocean towns: Marblehead, MA and Cocoa Beach, FL. Cocoa Beach was a second home for Judy and she had many close friends there whom she loved dearly. But above all else, Judy loved spending time with her family; never missing her granddaughters’ performances, weekly Sunday dinners or watching Game of Thrones together.

A significant part of Judy’s life was her work helping others. Judy was a grateful friend of Bill W’s for close to 40 years. During her years in recovery, she touched many lives with her empathy, compassion and wisdom. Through her own experiences, she was able to help others overcome many of life’s challenges. Even after facing her own difficult diagnosis of metastasized cancer Judy continued to guide and support those around her with amazing dignity and grace. Her family is forever appreciative of her guidance during this time and for the amazing outpouring of love and care she received from her friends. She will be very much missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends are invited to join in A Celebration of Judy’s Life held on Sunday, June 4th, 2017 at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, Massachusetts from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, we ask donations to be made to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. www.BAFOUND.org or Kaplan Family Hospice House/Care Dimensions. www.caredimensions.org.
