Kathryn Hanson

Kathryn Good Hanson (daughter of Charles and Lucy Good of Bridgeport, CT), passed away on July 7,
2021 in Ayer, MA. She was 58. She leaves behind her husband, Charles Edward Hanson after 37 years of marriage.
Kathryn spent the last 3 years of her life receiving nursing home care due to MS, which she was
diagnosed with approx. 7 years ago. She had been managing juvenile diabetes all her life. Kathryn was a
special ed teacher for 20 years and loved working with kids and teenagers with special needs. She
worked in many different middle school settings from public to parochial. Kathryn also had a passion for
exercising her creative talents through jewelry-making, mosaics, stained glass, writing, drawing, painting
and many other artistic pursuits. Kathryn loved animals and worked with her local animal shelters to
help take care of stray cats and get them neutered and spayed. She fed a variety of cats from her back
porch for years as well as a family of possums. Kathryn and Charles have hosted a variety of pets over
the years including beloved Alabaster, their white cat, many reptiles including Ishmael (Iggy) their
iguana, box turtles and fish. Kathryn was the kind of person who greeted every animal she came across
with love and joy. She loved going on drives with her husband and stopping to greet cows and goats.
Kathryn and her husband traveled widely in the US and Canada visiting many national parks and
especially reveling in the southwestern part of the country where Kathryn had especial affinity for New
Mexico: it’s art and history. Kathryn and Charles also shared a love of a wide variety of musical genres
from punk rock to Shostakovitch. Kathryn donated to a wide variety of organizations including American
Diabetes Association, Amnesty International, Southern Poverty Law, National Multiple Sclerosis Society,
ASPCA, NRDC, Wilderness Society, National Wildlife Foundation, World Wildlife Fund, National Audubon
Society, American Cancer Association, many Native American charities and local animal shelters. In lieu
of flowers please make a donation in her name to any of the charities named above.

    Dear Chuck,
I am still processing the loss of Kathy, as you, of course are. Memories keep coming to me. Today I am thinking about her amazing power of FOCUS. As I recall, when Kathy directed her intention to a topic or project – whether art, work, studying, writing, health – she went deep and long. No stopping her! Love, Jane
