Kenneth Frank Milne
Kenneth Frank Milne of Norfolk, a loving father, champion cyclist and four-decade resident of Massachusetts, died on Monday, November 4, 2024. He was 76.
Ken died from complications from a bicycle accident after he was struck by a car while riding near his home in early October. He approached cycling as he approached life, with intense focus, determination and commitment.
Born in Staten Island, New York in 1948, Ken was the only child of Frank Milne, a gas station manager, and Katherine (Sebo) Milne, a secretary. He graduated from the Staten Island Academy prep school and, to his parents’ great pride, received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cornell University. Ken met his future wife, Rebecca Wilson, while in Colorado where he lived and worked after graduate school. The couple married and lived in Manhattan for a few years before moving to Needham, Massachusetts in 1982 to have and raise their two children, Katie and Libby Wilson-Milne.
Ken was an accomplished athlete. He was an avid marathoner in his early life and then took up cycling in the early 2000s and made it the center of his life, including year-round training and racing. He competed often and in both 2023 and 2024 won the gold medal in his age group in the USA Cycling Masters & Junior Road National Championships.
During his career, Ken worked in a variety of sales and marketing roles at companies including Chemical Bank and Digital Equipment Corporation, later Compaq. Upon his retirement, he transitioned into a life more dedicated to intellectual pursuits, such as listening to opera and reading nonfiction, and cycling.
Ken is survived by his two daughters and his grandson, Lane Rudegeair-Milne. Donations in Ken’s memory can be made to the USA Cycling Foundation.
