Linda J. Brown

Linda J. Brown, 68, of Medford, MA, passed away on April 21, 2022 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Linda was born on May 5th to Thomas D. Brown and Margaret (Doherty) Brown in Medford. After Linda graduated from Medford High School in 1971, she joined her step-mother, Mary (Alford) Brown, working at Verizon where she held various positions including clerk, technician and supervisor. Linda retired from Verizon in 1996. Following Verizon, Linda was employed as a customer service representative with Anheuser-Busch from 2000 through 2010. Linda loved both of these jobs and maintained several friendships from her days at Verizon and Anheuser-Busch.

Linda was a long-time resident of Medford, MA and truly considered that home. She never ventured far, but you might have seen her at the local American Legion where she liked to visit and enjoy time with friends and family, as well as share a little bit of her talents with karaoke. Linda was very involved and committed to the American Legion Auxiliary for many years which she thoroughly enjoyed. Anyone who really knows Linda understands that she lived her life her way; she loved cruising around in her red Mustang convertible and being part of a good party – even her birth date (Cinco de Mayo) is a party. She cherished the companionship of her long-time partner Mark Granese and her dogs (Harley, Sparky, Molly) over the years. Linda was a beautiful, strong, smart, and compassionate woman with a big heart. She is loved and now missed by many.

Linda was predeceased by both of her parents, Thomas and Margaret (Doherty) Brown as well as her step-mother, Mary (Alford) Brown, and sister, Dianne (Brown) Mercauto. Linda is survived by her long-time partner, Mark Granese of Medford, MA, sister, Barbara (Brown) Thompson of Marblehead, MA and her brother, Thomas Brown Jr. of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Dawn Brady, Meredith McHugh, Alison Pini, Mark Mercauto, Michael Mercauto, William Thompson, and James Thompson, as well as several great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Boston Cremation at 287 Main Street, Malden, MA 02148 on Friday May 6, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Linda to support cancer research and patient care at: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168 Boston, MA 02284 or via www.dana-farber.org/gift

Linda was such a wonderful person. I had so many fond memories of her. She always made you laugh and was there for a party. Linda was there when you needed her. She was my step sister but I always looked at her as a sister. I can’t believe that she is gone. Thank you for being there for Maureen and Kim. You will now be partying with them along with Diane.
