Marilyn J. Shanahan

It is with great sadness that we share the news of our mother’s passing on July 16, 2018. Marilyn J. Shanahan (Fisher), age 85, also known as ‘Mal’ to family and close friends, is now resting with her Heavenly Father.

Mum will be lovingly remembered by her three children; Mike Shanahan and his wife Cathy, Steve Shanahan and his wife Vicki, and Patti (Shanahan) Davidson and her husband Duane.

She loved being a Nana – the apples of her eyes were her grandchildren; Patrick, Tim, Joel, Samantha and Connor, along with her great grandchildren, Charlie, Cohen and the most recent addition of sweet Caroline. Auntie Mal will also be dearly missed by her nephew Henry Grant and wife Chris, whom she fondly thought of as her own children.

Mal’s radiant smile and contagious laughter has touched so many more lives, including and certainly not limited to her extended family of siblings, half siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her dearest friends. An honorable mention goes to the ever so fun and full of laughter group, “The Lunch Bunch.”

It was no secret that Mal loved her sports. Nearly every sport, whether it be baseball, football, hockey or even tennis, found its way to her television on any given day of the week. She was most definitely a true, die-hard Boston sports fan. She proudly – and sometimes quite loudly – let it be known that the closest to her heart were the Red Sox… with a big bowl of popcorn.

Mal was a giver. She always had “just a little something” ready and waiting to give a special someone. Whether it be for a birthday or Christmas or just to brighten someones day, she loved to give. At times, Mal could also be just as giving with her ‘2 cents,’ which in some cases may not have been received as kindly, but all of which came from her heart.

She loved huge and she loved unconditionally. Most importantly Mal was and will continue to be loved!

Some would say “Mal never met a stranger”. She would happily extend a bright eyed “Good Morning” or cheerful “How ’bout them Red Sox last night?!” with nearly every passerby. It is that happy-go-lucky, ‘Miss Sunshine’ smile that we will miss most of all. We will cherish our memories of Mal and will hold her deep within our hearts, forever and always.

Forever in my heart and memories. I still, as I always have, think of you at Mother’s Day because that special time you helped me make a new gift for my mom when my gift made at school broke on the way home and so kindly and calmly .made my bad day a very special day. And still and forever when ever I have some “5cent” black jelly beans!! Rest in peace Mal in the arms of of our Holy Heavenly Father. Smile down on us and every once in awhile …. give us a laugh! ❤
