Maya Grace Bragdon

On Sunday, January 9th, 2022 our brightest light went out. Our sweet Maya Grace succumbed to her battle against DIPG , peacefully next to her mother in her sleep.

Maya Grace Bragdon was born, along with her twin sister Abigail on May 2, 2014. Maya was the sweetest, funniest little girls you could ever meet, although slightly shy. Her favorite place were the beaches of MV and any playground with her sister.
She loved board games and played all the time. She never really had a chance to get into any sports but had no problem expelling energy.
Maya was diagnosed with DIPG in December of 2020. Her prognosis was not good, 8-11 months .
We did everything we could , clinical trials, multiple drug combos and radiation treatments. She never complained- ever. She battled this disease for 13 months, with everything she had. She left this world in the early morning hours of Sunday, cuddling as we had every morning for the past year.
We have chosen not to have any public services and will be spreading her ashes upon the shores of Martha’s Vineyard, her favorite place over the summer.
Maya is survived by her twin sister, Abigail, Parents Shawn and Kimberly Bragdon of Revere, her Papa Michael Bragdon and her Nanaka Kathy Meagher of Beverly, her late grandmother, grandfather and Uncle. She is also survived by many aunts and uncles and cousins and friends. ❤️
Our family thanks everyone who supported us this year, in one way or another. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Our Maya is free and we will miss her forever. ♥️

To honor Maya’s memory, we ask that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Jimmy Fund in her name. You can do this by going to

We are all better for having had the chance to love her and will continue to always love her and the family that surrounded her.

Shawn, Kim and Abby – I share your sorrow and weep with you. I am lost for words, and cannot think of greater sorrow than that which comes from losing a child! My heart breaks for you. I hope you find strength from knowing what AMAZING and wonderful parents you are and that you Maya’s days bright and happy.
Kim – You are a SUPER WOMAN, A ROCK and I admire your strength! My absolute deepest condolences to you and your family.

That’s was a well written tribute for Maya. That’s what stuck out for me too, how strong she was. She was always willing to do whatever it takes, while never complaining. I think it’s always harder for those around the person, than the one with the illness., but that’s especially true with a kid. Maya handled everything that came with her way with a quiet strength and an impish smile. She was a special girl, who will be missed.

I will never forget the day I learned about Kim’s pregnancy with the girls, the day they were born, Maya’s diagnosis day or the day she went to heaven. Each of these days I wept for the imprints made on my heart- and those impressions will stay there always. Our grief for the Bragdon family is deep and has changed us profoundly. We weep with you and are here to hold you. May we all be as brave as super Maya.
