Michael Hopwood

Michael Jeffrey Hopwood, of Nashua NH and Lexington MA, passed away peacefully at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston MA. He was as rare and unique the day he came into this world as the day he left. He was born October 4, 1957, the day the Russian Sputnik I was launched, and passed away under a rare Christmas Eve full moon, December 24, 2015. He was the most unselfish man his family ever knew, always putting others first. The youngest of six, he was predeceased by his parents Georgean MacDow Hopwood and Frederick James Hopwood, Sr. He was the nephew of Robert and Ruth Hopwood of Lexington, MA. Mike will be dearly missed by his sisters and brothers and their spouses: Kathy Begor and husband Everett of Hebron, NH; Rick Hopwood and wife Karen, of Hampton Falls, NH; Rod Hopwood and wife Linea of Intervale, NH; Sandi Carrigan and husband Steve of Boone, NC; and Lisa Thomas and husband Gary of Melbourne, FL. Uncle Mike was adored by his nieces, nephews, their spouses, and great nieces and great nephews: Nathan Begor; Robin, Jeff, Jackson & Ally Courville; Jamie, Rae-Ann, Eddie, Alex, and Austin Hopwood; Kristin, Eric, Millie and Noah Rogers; Whitney Hopwood; George Cishek; Brian, Kathleen and Ben Cishek, Connor and Jenna Drake; Pete, Shannon, Meyer and Rowan Thomas; and Mandi, Charlie, Mia and Ava Pedrick. They were his pride and joy. Mike was the owner of Premier Kitchen and Bath, of Chelmsford, MA, and for the past two decades brought his expertise and knowledge to Boston Basins, Inc. as Product and Logistics Manager. He continued to design kitchens and baths featured in Boston Design magazine. He was well known for restoring cars, was a gifted photographer, sharing many original pieces with his family and friends, and loved animals. He was an avid horseman and his family will enjoy many fond memories of Mike at horse shows and trail rides. As the youngest of six, he learned to rely on his quick wit and sense of humor for survival. He had an infectious laugh and used it often! “I’m glad I get to see Mum first so I can tell her my side of the story.” The family would like to extend their appreciation to the fine staff of nurses and doctors at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (and Team Pink) and Brigham & Women’s Hospital (and the 5B Palliative Oncology Team) for their sincere compassion, care, and understanding during a difficult time. The family is holding a private celebration of his life. Mike had many beloved pets throughout the years and had a special connection with all animals. In lieu of flowers his family would appreciate donations in his name to the New Hampshire Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals at www.nhspca.org, Dana-Farber Jimmy Fund or to the charity of your choice. Happy trails to you, until we meet again…
