Michael Lebeaux


Michael “Mike” Lebeaux, died on October 8, 2016, due to complications from cancer. He was 67.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Janice Axelrod, his cherished daughter Cassandra Lebeaux Guertin, his brother Richard Lebeaux, his sister Susan Lebeaux and their spouses, Isaac Guertin, Nancy Kahn and Irv Gornstein. He also leaves nieces and nephews Rachel, Dan, and Becky Lebeaux and Steve Gornstein and their spouses David Ertischek and Rachel Comerford, many cousins, and long-term friends. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Lincoln Lebeaux and Thelma W. Lebeaux, and his father’s second wife, Thelma H. Lebeaux.

Born in Worcester, Mike was a lifelong resident of Massachusetts. He received a B.A. from Worcester State University and an M.A. in counseling psychology from Anna Maria College. He retired in 2015 after many years as a clinical intervention specialist at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Throughout his career, which also included working for the United Farmworker’s Union and at adolescent group homes, Mike was dedicated to helping people and was passionate about his work.

Among other things, Mike will be remembered for his devotion to social justice, his intellect, wit, and sense of style, and his love for Cape Cod, Boston sports teams, kayaking, reading, and music.

Condolences may be made at 85 Freeman Street, Newton, Massachusetts on Friday, October 14 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm; Saturday, October 15 6–9 pm, and Sunday, October 16 12- 4 pm and 6-8 pm. A memorial service celebrating Mike’s life and legacy will take place at a later date.
