Mildred S. “Peggy” Kelley

QUINCY: Mildred S. “Peggy” Kelley, 77, passed away peacefully with her loving daughter and son-in-law to be by her bed side. She is survived by her daughters: Ann Marie Kelley and her fiance James Steinberg of Quincy and Deborah Crowley of Hanover; her sons: John M. Kelley of New Bedford and Robert B. Kelley of Whitman; 7 granddaughters; 10 great grandchildren; her siblings: Barbara Owen, Ronald Jaynes, Shirley Florendo and Diane Polley; her half siblings from Rhode Island: Alice Berry, Richard Pires, John Pires and Robert Pires; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her longtime companion Barnard “Bernie” Marshall who was a father to her children, 1 granddaughter, 1 great-granddaughter, a sister June Myers and a half brother Joseph Pires all predeceased her. Peggy’s family wishes to extend their deepest thanks to all the staff at the Royal Health in Braintree for their dedication and compassionate care.

Peggy was born and raised in Everett, MA the daughter of the late Alexander Jaynes and Mildred (Close) Pires. A hard worker, she opened and operated her own restaurant for many years in Boston called the Coffee Cup. Boston Magazine voted her “Best Hotdog” two years in a row. She then opened Peggy’s Daycare in Quincy providing local families in her community with childcare like they were her own kids. Peggy was a dedicated and hard worker all her life but most of all she loved her children and her family. All who knew Peggy will miss her dearly.

All are invited to Celebrate Peggy’s Life on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Boston Cremation, 116 Franklin Street, Quincy, MA 02169. A visitation is from 12 noon-2pm with a prayer service to begin at 2pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth, MA.
