Mr. Lewis Gordon Hale, Jr.
Mr. Lewis Gordon Hale, Jr., 97, formerly of Chappaqua, NY, died on August 7, 2021, at his home in Wenham, MA. Mr. Hale was the beloved husband to the late Marjorie Coldwell Hale. They had been married for 62 years, before her passing in 2011. Gordon was born and raised in Scarsdale, NY, and graduated from Duke University in 1946, where he played baseball and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He served as Lieutenant in the United States Navy during World War ll, aboard the LST, USS General O.H. Ernst.
A resident of Chappaqua, NY since 1952, prior to moving to Wenham, MA in 2010, he worked in the textile industry in New York City. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Chappaqua and an alumni member of the Hims of Faith. He was an avid antiques collector, paddle and tennis player, and an accomplished skier. Gordon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by three daughters, Christin Hale of Wenham, MA, Joanne Hale Norton of Beverly, MA, Elizabeth Hale Reid of Maryland, and one son, John Gregory Hale of New York City, NY; seven grandchildren, Evan, Emily, Joanne, Jeffrey, Tyler, Alexandra and Jack; and five great-grandchildren, Matilda, Bennett, Arthur, Henry and Cassidy. Mr. Hale was also the brother of the late Justina Elizabeth Hale. His funeral service will be private.
