Norma Catherine (Veronesi) Godfrey, 85 years old, passed away peacefully at home on November 19, 2019. She was born on June 8, 1934 in East Bridgewater, MA to the late Mando and Marion (Hill) Veronesi.
She was predeceased by her son Paul Godfrey and his wife Melody Green, her daughter and son-in-law Lynne (Godfrey) and Daniel Ralph, her grandchildren Matthew and Kerri Godfrey, and her sisters, Barabara (Veronesi) Chuckran of Arizona and Muriel (Veronesi) Cammel of Ohio.

Norma is survived by her husband of 65 years, Mervyn Godfrey, her son Steven Godfrey and his wife Diana of Watertown, her daughter, Tracy (Godfrey) McAvoy and her husband Brian of Waltham, her grandchildren, Ryan Godfrey Ralph of Waltham, Nicholas and Jessica Godfrey of Watertown, and Elizabeth and Kevin McAvoy of Waltham, her sisters and brother-in-laws, Irene (Veronesi) and Peter Engel of Missouri, Janet (Veronesi) and Roy Keene of Maine, and Sal Cammel of Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.

She graduated from East Bridgewater High School in 1952 and quickly joined the United States Air Force for 3 years. While enlisted in the Air Force, she met Mervyn who was also serving. They got married and returned to their home state of Massachusetts before moving to Waltham, where they had their 4 children and spent the remainder of their lives together.

For the majority of her life, she was dedicated to her job as a waitress at numerous restaurants. She loved going out every day with Merv to socialize and play Keno. Her favorite pastime activities were playing cards, scratch tickets, crocheting and watching the Game Show channel. She loved going to casinos. Recently, she enjoyed playing card games on the iPad, like solitaire. Once a month, her and Tracy would meet up with friends to play poker. Norma looked forward to attending the Reagle Players shows frequently with her family and friends. She always made sure her nails were done and loved passing on her jewelry. Norma loved sports too. She was always on the sidelines of a game, whether it was Merv’s, her children’s, or her grandchildren’s. Norma was an active member of the Post 440 American Legion and a member of the Waltham Elks Lodge 953.

In remembrance and celebration of Norma’s life, the family will be holding a gathering on January 4th, 2020 at 1179 Trapelo Road in Waltham, MA. All are welcome to stop by to enjoy refreshments and share a story about Norma, any time after 2 pm. A private burial will be held.

My deepest condolences to Tracy, Mervyn and the whole family. That’s a great picture of Norma. She was a character and will be missed. I still have the beautiful shamrock blanket she crocheted for me so many years ago. May she rest in peace in the arms of the Father. All my love.
