Phyllis Arlene Beckley D’Angelo
Phyllis Arlene (Beckley) D’Angelo, a long-time resident of Woburn, MA passed away peacefully at home, as she wished, after a long courageous battle with cancer, on Friday, March 18, 2016. Born December 27, 1933, in Waterbury, VT, to Florence (Shonio) and Arthur Beckley. She was predeceased by her parents and by two of her sisters, Kathleen and Geraldine. She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband, Anthony, Jr., son Anthony III, her dog Nicholas, and her sisters Barbara, Jacqueline, and Arletta, many nieces and nephews, and godchildren. Phyllis graduated Lowell High School, Lowell, MA in 1951 and then when the family moved to Southborough, MA she went into nurses training, where she met her husband. She eventually managed nursing homes in Roxbury, Middleborough, and Woburn before changing her profession to Assistant Horse Trainer. She and her husband owned and trained racehorses for many years. She really loved her horses and being with them at the barn and watching them run. She even enjoyed mucking the stalls and setting up the feed for them. Phyllis also loved to be outside working in the garden, crocheting and knitting, reading, playing cards, and visiting with friends and relatives. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Boston Cremation, 287 Main Street, Malden, MA . Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the American Cancer Society. I am so very sorry to hear about your lose. My thought and prayers are with you in this time of mourning.
I have many great memories of Phyllis, she was one tough lady! She loved her family and her horses and her dogs. We had some great times racing Gentleman Jolie and Labelle Buttons and hanging out in the tack room having coffee and donuts and solving crypto quotes. I will give Jimmy some extra carrots tonight for you, Phyllis. You will be missed.
