Robert Edwin “Bob” Burke

Robert Edwin “Bob” Burke of Boston, MA sadly passed away on Friday March 7 th 2025 from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was 87 years old and he was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was raised in New York City and received dual degrees in a 6-year program – Bachelor of Science from Bates College and Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Bob spent his 45 year career in commercial real estate. He retired after 25 years with Boston Properties in Washington DC and Boston as Executive Vice President and COO.

He was happily married to Jane McGinn Burke for 47 years. Together they enjoyed traveling, collecting art and devoting time to philanthropic causes. Bob was an avid fly fisher and this passion brought him around the world to unique and stunning fishing terrain. At home in Boston, he loved taking daily walks through the
Boston Public Gardens.

Bob was an Trustee Emeritus at Bates College. He was a member of Visiting Committees and he and Jane were Great Benefactors at the MFA Boston, where a gallery was named for them. Bob was an Advisor and Benefactor at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. He and Jane also established the Burke Fellowship in Pulmonary Heart Disease at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

He leaves his wife Jane, twin brother David, a daughter Pepper from a previous marriage, a nephew Matt, a niece Carrie, brother and sister in-law Barton and Nancy, nieces Leigh and Nathania, as well as delightful great nephews Kai and Dane. Bob will be greatly missed.
