Teresa Jane Caralis (October 20, 1949 – January 20, 2025)

Teresa Jane Caralis of Medford, MA (formerly of Everett, MA, and Hemet, CA), passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, at the age of 75. Surrounded by her loving family at the Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers, MA, Teresa’s passing marked the end of a five-year journey with dementia. A recent move back to Massachusetts allowed her family to cherish this final chapter together.

Born in Boston, MA, Teresa was the beloved daughter of the late James and Josephine (Prescott) Maguire. On May 26, 1968, she married the love of her life, Stacy Caralis, beginning a devoted marriage that spanned 56 beautiful years.

Teresa is survived by her children, James Caralis and his wife Lara of Cambridge, MA; Kelly Caralis and her husband Anthony Matarazzo of Medford, MA; and Michael Caralis and his wife Lori of Wilmington, MA. She also leaves behind her cherished siblings: sisters Pat Loonsfoot and MaryJo O’Connor, and brothers Thomas, Gerard, and Vincent Maguire. She is predeceased by her brothers Frank, James, William, and Daniel Maguire. Teresa will also be lovingly remembered by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A woman of many passions, Teresa was an avid reader, a talented seamstress, and a creative quilter who also loved crocheting. After raising her three children, she discovered a passion for running and proudly completed several races.  Her dedication to lifelong learning led her to work as a teacher aide in Everett Public Schools before she and Stacy retired to California.

In California, Teresa embraced a new chapter of life, finding joy in shuffleboard tournaments, gatherings with the Red Hat Society, and exploring her love of travel. However, Teresa’s greatest pride and joy was her role as “Grandma” to her seven beloved grandchildren: Ryan Wilson, Anthony Matarazzo, Talia Matarazzo, Rosanna Caralis, Dmitri Caralis, Aaden Caralis, and Alana Caralis. She devoted countless hours to supporting their activities and creating lasting memories with them.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Kaplan Family Hospice and Care Dimensions for their compassionate care during Teresa’s final weeks.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Teresa’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Kaplan Family Hospice.

A memorial service honoring Teresa’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Boston Cremation, located at 287 Main Street, Malden, MA. Family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to celebrate her memory.
