Alan Legg was born in Somerville, MA, the 6th child of Alice and James Legg. His siblings are Delores, Otto (Joan) , Mickey (Maureen), Robert (Cathy), and Joan Legg. He was married to the former Janet (Thibedore) and they had three children: Joseph Michael, Patrice Francesca, and Carolyn Alice. He is also the Grandfather (Pop) of Francesca Darby Gay, Max Alan Gay, Stryker Joseph Gay, and Julia Grace Gay and the Father in Law of Elaine Geanis and Rocky Gay.
He was friend to many especially LInda Christoforos. He loved being an uncle to so many of his nieces and nephews and made sure to stay in touch with family. He entertained Michelle and Steve whenever they were home for the holidays and enjoyed ribbing Steve about the Jets.
Alan loved animals and was always feeding stray animals as well as any wildlife within his reach. Alan made everyone feel special, because he was so very special and thoughtful. He remembered every holiday with the loveliest of cards and sentiments that were clearly chosen just for you.
Alan worked for many years as a caterer with a canteen truck route mostly in Malden and Medford and became part of all the companies he visited, especially Massachusetts Electric, New England Tea and Coffee, L&M Machine, Pullman, Chuck’s Provision, and many others. He loved to hang out with friends at Anthony’s in Malden always sharing a practical joke, smile, and a good word. He lived on Cleveland Street for 48 years and shared close friendships with his neighbors, especially Milly, Mark, Mike, Rosa, Tom and Dotty, Fred and Sheila, and all of their children. He considered Diane Piscatelli Towle another daughter and all of the children of Cleveland Street grew up to be like family.
Alan loved sports and always knew exactly what the statistics were for the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins. He taught his Red Sox nation family well.
Alan spent most of his time doing things for other people and teaching his children what right looked like. We often say we are the most loved children ever and we are blessed beyond words to have had. Alan enjoyed very close relationships equal and loving with his children and instilled in them devotion and loyalty. Again, he taught them what right looked like and we can only hope to be a little like him. Joe would like his Dad to be remembered also as his best friend as this was so true.
Alan’s family is thankful for all the well wishes, thoughts and prayers. He is already missed beyond words and only the truth that we will see him in Heaven allows us any comfort.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday from St. Francis Church, 440 Fellsway West, Medford, at 11:30 AM. Private Burial.
