Joan Thompson


Joan Thompson, 85, from Durham, NH died peacefully at home in Marblehead, MA May 19, 2017 from lung cancer. Wife of Don Thompson, daughters Tracey McGonagle and her husband Paul of Marblehead, MA, Leslie Thompson, Colorado Springs, CO, Robin Thompson, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, grandchildren Kathryn, Paige and Colton.

Joan was born in Aberdeen, SD and raised in Sioux Falls, SD, graduated summa cum laude from South Dakota State. Started Don Thompson Real Estate with her husband in Durham, NH.

She loved to spend winters in Rancho Mirage, CA and summers on Hidden Lake in ME with family and friends where she would play golf and tennis. Joan had many talents and interests of which she was very modest, especially her incredible artwork.

At the family’s request, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Danvers, MA 01923 or a charity of your choice.

    Don. So sorry for your loss. Leo and I always liked yiu both. Yiu were kind enough to remember me when Leo passed. So I understand your sorrow. It’s not easy to let go of one you loved so very much. My thoughts are with you. Theresa

    So sorry to hear this sad news. We were lucky enough to meet your parents at the Dinah Shore Golf Tournament in Rancho Mirage one year and to stay with them the following year. What fun we had. And your Mom kept in touch with us since then. She will be deeply missed. Love to your Family.

    As I look across the lake, I can still see your Mom and Dad in my mind’s eye, with their precious white dog coming over to visit us in their kayaks. Thank you for being a liaison between your Mom and I in her final days. She was a very special lady and a great friend. She will be missed. Thank you for caring for her in her final days Tracey.
