LOWELL – Anne Whitaker Pierce, 96, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2023, in Lowell, MA. She was born on September 16, 1926, in Newton, MA, to the late Holden and Kathleen Whitaker. Anne was the beloved wife of the late Richard Pierce.

Anne, also known as Annie to many, was happiest when surrounded by her large family. She had a kind spirit, a great sense of humor, and a deep empathy for others. Anne loved all types of animals and dedicated many years to volunteering at a cat shelter. Her home was always filled with the laughter of her six children, along with many cats, dogs, and various other animals.

Anne was also known for her culinary skills, particularly her spaghetti and meatballs, cowboy cookies, Anadama bread, and the dozens of Christmas cookies she delivered with love every year to her friends and neighbors.

In addition to her passion for cooking and baking, Anne enjoyed knitting sweaters for her grandchildren, painting, and making homemade jellies. One of her favorite pastimes was taking her six children to her father’s home on Cape Cod, where they spent their day at the beach, boating and digging for clams. Anne was also an avid Red Sox fan and had strong opinions about the New England Patriots!

Anne attended Centenary Junior College, and she began her career as a librarian for the Pembroke Elementary Schools. She later worked for many years as an administrative assistant to the principals at the Silver Lake Regional High Schools in Kingston and Pembroke.

Anne is survived by her loving children: Stephen Pierce and wife Maggie, David Pierce and wife Elaine, Karen Kelley and husband Dennis, Kim Pierce and wife Cheryl, Candace Pierce, Christopher Pierce and wife JoAnne. She was a cherished grandmother to Megan and husband Scott, Bryan, Kaitlyn and husband Nick, Scott and wife Ashley, Ryan and wife Jennifer, Annie and husband Kevin, Erin and fiance Rob, Sean, Eli, Liam, and Olivia, and great-grandmother to Ashley, Jacob, Riley, Kennedy, Emersyn, Ellie, and Quinn.
