Eric Sotnek (1963-2023)
Eric Alan Sotnek, 60, of Georgetown, Mass. passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital on November 2, 2023, after a long-fought battle with a complex of health issues.
Eric was born in Ossining, N.Y. in 1963. He attended Ossining public schools and went on to study at the Sylvania Technical School and Becker College. Eric worked in field service for Autographix, where he met his wife Sally (Durnford). He went on to enjoy a career in telephony in sales support roles with PictureTel, Polycom, Siemens, FirstLight and Unify. Eric loved helping others, and his career choices gave him the opportunity to use his technical knowledge and ability to help people and organizations solve problems.
Eric was happiest with a screwdriver in his hand. He had an insatiable curiosity about how things work and was delighted to take them apart to explore what made them tick. He embraced working on all aspects of his house, truly believing that nobody else could do anything as thoroughly as he could, and took great satisfaction in seeing a job well done. Eric’s other love was dining at restaurants: Asian restaurants had a special place in his heart. When giving directions to a location, the landmarks he used were always restaurants.
Everything Eric did was for his family, in both work and leisure time. You could set your watch to his weekly calls to his Dad. Many years of trips with Sally’s extended family to White Point, Nova Scotia, where Eric found that he truly kicked back and relaxed, hold wonderful memories that we hold close. He loved his family above everything else. Eric leaves his sons Ian (Kristy) and Elliott (Taylor), daughter Hannah, wife Sally, his father Jules Sotnek (Jackie Castle), sisters Lisa (Craig) Schwartz and Adrienne (Ed) Lallo, nephews Jonathan (Lee) Schwartz, Michael (Anna) Schwartz and Alex Lallo, and two grand nephews. Eric’s inlaws Kendra Durnford (Mark Snyder), Megan Durnford (Larry Dionne), Nancy Durnford and Heather Douglas, as well as nieces and nephews Timothy, Matilda, Charlotte and Hugh will miss his quiet but thoughtful contributions to family gatherings. Eric was predeceased by his mother Pearl (Finkelstein).
There will be a private service for the family in December.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation or Doctors Without Borders.
