James J. Dunlop
James J. Dunlop of Marblehead, MA, passed peacefully at the Kaplan Hospice House on August 8, 2014. Jim was born May 10, 1934 in Palo Alto, CA. He graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1955 and the Harvard Business School in 1962. A management consultant with the firm of Arthur D. Little in Cambridge, MA for 21 years, Jim was a leader in the field of nonprofit and association management. In 1983 he founded James Dunlop & Co. Management Consultants. He authored “Leading the Association”, a seminal work in the field. A resident of Marblehead for the last 50 years, Jim was an active member of the Marblehead Unitarian Universalist Church. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judith Mitchell Dunlop, his children Debra Lynn, Andrew James, John Laurence and John’s wife, Angelique, grandchildren James Karekezi, Malaika Anne, Francine Uwera and Deborah Mignone and by his sister, Mary Jeanette Wedge and Mary’s husband, Robert, nieces and nephews and their children. Jim’s brother, John Frederick Dunlop, predeceased him. A celebration of Jim’s life and a reception will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead, 28 Mugford Street, Saturday, August 23rd, at 1:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Bartlett Fund of the Marblehead UU Church, the Kaplan Hospice House of Danvers, MA or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
