Josephine Colangelo

Josephine (Scarpato) Colangelo passed away January 20, 2023 at Bridges, Memory Care in Westford, MA. Formerly of Lexington & Bedford, MA. She was 95 years old.

Born on November 19, 1927 in Boston, MA to Salvatore & Francesca Scarpato. Loving wife of 50 years to the late Michael Colangelo. Mother of Steven Colangelo and wife, Janis; Lynda (Colangelo) Giannetta and life partner, Paul Leone; Laura (Colangelo) Reynolds and husband, Michael.

Loving “Grandma Jo” to Carla (Giannetta) Murphy; Adam Colangelo; David Giannetta; Sharon (Colangelo) Cannava; Jessica (Reynolds) Espinal; Jamie (Reynolds) Usher; Julie Reynolds. Proud Great Grandmother of 13.

Sister of Zina (predeceased); Roy and wife, Mary; Domenic and wife, Anne.

Jo was an avid Duplicate Bridge player, Seamstress, ballroom dancer, tennis player, and enjoyed traveling with many good friends. Chocolate and coffee were important too! She enjoyed spending over 20 years wintering with her husband Mike on Hilton Head Island, SC and summers at the family vacation home on Lake Winnipesaukee in Tuftonboro, NH.

Jo was a social butterfly who enjoyed meeting and conversing with people from all walks of life. She loved sharing stories with her family, whether it was reminiscing about her childhood, how she met Mike, or their many travels. She was spunky and never shied away from a good debate. Jo’s wittiness made her a joy to be around – she could appreciate a joke even if it was on her behalf and was always ready with a quip of her own. She never passed up an opportunity to dance and sing along to a favorite tune. Jo was so supportive of her children and grandchildren, pushing them to further their education and pursue their passions, and always showing genuine curiosity in their lives.

Jo lived a wonderful life built with her husband, Mike, shared with many generations of her family, leaving lasting memories.

Services will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Donations in her memory may be made to The Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders, P.O. Box 33238, Tulsa, OK 74153- thegfpd.org in honor of her great grandchild, Lincoln Usher.
