Linda Hill

Linda Hill, who raised her children in Boston and spent the last 18 years in Springfield, fell asleep in death on August 06, 2022.

She was born in Amherst, MA to Lillian and Ralph Newport – a direct descendant of Amos Newport who in 1776, was the first African slave to sue Massachusetts for his freedom. On July 04, 1964 she married John D. Hill, Jr. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 28, 1965 and remained faithful until her death. She truly enjoyed sharing her faith with others. When circumstances allowed, she would often increase the hours devoted to her ministry. She helped several students come to know her God, Jehovah. She especially held the scripture found at Isaiah 6:8 close to her heart. All six of her daughters shared her love for Jehovah and were also baptized as his servants.

Linda was known for her eye for interior design and was blessed with an opportunity to assist in decorating several Kingdom Halls in the Boston area, as well as other public spaces. Like Dorcas from the Bible (Acts 9:39), Linda made original designed crocheted items, especially baby layettes, for family, friends, coworkers and even her UPS driver! As a loving Christian mother, she felt that her close-knit family was of utmost importance. She enjoyed considering the Daily Text from the Bible with her family, game nights, family dinners & seasonal arts and crafts days. Linda and John had just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary! Throughout the years, they kept their doors and hearts open to all who needed them.

Linda leaves behind, her loving husband John D. Hill Jr. and 8 children; John D. III, Leah, Sharon (husband Mark Carlisle), Rebekah, Elizabeth (husband Charles Cobb), Matthew, Susannah (husband Kyle Gatling) and Krystal. 13 grandchildren; Aisha, Iman (husband Kyle Sweeney), Michael, Solomon, Chyna, Akayla-Rain, Mehkai, Ava-Kelis, John D. IV, Nikolas, Kristofer, Egypt and Emina; 6 great grandchildren; Leila, Liam, Lillian, Alekzander, Ashton and Theodore. She also leaves behind her niece Rose (husband Everton Chin) who was loved like a daughter; great nephews Javan, Everton Charles, Elijah and Ezekiel, who were loved like grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings: Annette, Jamie, Eddie, Danny and Celeste as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceeded in death by her parents Lillian and Ralph, sister Connie and son Michael.
