Mary Lou Walsh


Mary Lou Walsh (McGrail) of Westwood, passed peacefully on March 19, 2022, at Briarwood nursing home in Needham at the age of 89.

Mary Lou was born and raised in Dorchester MA, an only child to Patrick and Mary McGrail originally from Ireland.  She attended Saint Peter’s Parish school and Cardinal Cushing High School.  At the age of 19, she met the love of her life, Francis T. Walsh of Roxbury MA.  They married in 1952 and settled in Needham MA.  Mary Lou worked for many years at the Needham Times Newspaper selling advertisements.  She was well known throughout Needham by the local town offices and shops.  Frank and Mary Lou had five children: son Brian (deceased) and Cindy Walsh of Hopkinton. Daughter Donna and Bradley (deceased) of Norfolk.  Son Mark and Cathy of Norfolk.Son Paul and Stephanie of Norfolk. And daughter Nancy and George (Jed) Toohey of Medway.  Mary Lou was a loving grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. 

Frank and Mary Lou were avid travelers who loved spending time visiting National Parks and historic sites across the United States.  They loved the time they spent in their motor home where they often travelled with family and friends.  Once retired, they spent many years in Ormond Beach, Florida.  Mary Lou loved to entertain and enjoyed times regaling stories with family and friends.  Wishing to be closer to family to enjoy spending time withtheir grandchildren and great grandchildren, Frank and Mary Lou returned home to Massachusetts to settle in Westwood. 

A memorial mass will be held at Saint Margaret Mary Church 845 High Street Westwood, MA on March 29, 2022, at 10:00 AM

    I had the pleasure of meeting Mary Lou just about 2 months ago. She was such a lovely lady and so friendly and kind. Her husband Frank took such loving care of her. Sincere condolences to her family. May she Rest In Peace.
