Rita Agnes Hashem
Rita Agnes Hashem, 84, of Saugus, Massachusetts, passed away on July 4, 2023. She was born on June 15, 1939, in Lynn, Massachusetts, to the late parents of Mack J. Maillet and Mary A. Maillet Deveau. She was also the sister of the late Richard/Norma Maillet, Gurt/Lou Nordike and Roger/Evie Maillet. Rita was married to the late Robert F Hashem Sr. for 50 years and together they created a beautiful life filled with love and cherished memories.
Rita was a beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend, known for her kindhearted nature. She was the friendliest person you could ever meet. She was very outgoing and had many friends. She loved her friends and family dearly and did everything she could for everyone. Rita was the best mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend anyone could have.
In her earlier years, Rita attended Saugus High School, graduating in 1957. She later pursued her education at Business School in Boston, where she honed her skills and acquired knowledge that would serve her well throughout her career. Rita’s career spanned several fields, reflecting her diverse skills and dedication to serving others. For 40 years, she worked as a crossing guard for the town of Saugus, ensuring the safety of countless children. Rita’s caring nature extended to her work at Fenway Park, where she spent 15 years in concessions and a Beer Seller, bringing joy to Red Sox fans. She also worked as a lunch lady at St. Mary’s in Lynn and Dom Savio in East Boston. In 1960, Rita served as an IBM Key Punch Operator at Lumberman’s Mutual Casualty Co of Boston.
Rita had a wide range of interests and hobbies that brought her joy. She loved driving everyone around, beach days, and bowling with her bowling team. Rita enjoyed watching TV with her sisters, traveling up north with her family, swimming at Latitude Sports Club and visiting friends. As a dedicated fan, she never missed a Boston Red Sox game and cheered passionately for her favorite team.
Rita’s warm and caring personality attracted many friends, and she was adored by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all those who experienced her kindness and generosity. Rita’s loving presence will be deeply missed by her surviving siblings, Rose Ann Phipps, Martin Maillet, and Yvonne Maillet, her children Lauri Giadone, Robert Hashem Jr., Kevin Hashem, Duncan MacDonald (Spouse), Heidi Hashem, Tammi Nunez, and Eddie Nunez (SpouseJ, as well as her grandchildren Paige Naimie, Garrett Naimie (SpouseJ, Brooke Daley, Alexis Nunez, Antonio Nunez, and Allison Nunez. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Raine and Beau Naimie. Rita’s memory will also be cherished by her many nieces, nephews, and the countless lives she touched throughout her lifetime.
A funeral service will be held at Saint Margaret’s Church Parish on July 14, 2023 at 10am, located at 431 Lincoln Ave in Saugus, MA. This will be an opportunity for loved ones to come together and celebrate Rita’s life, sharing memories and honoring her remarkable spirit. Following the service, a gathering will be held from 11:00am-3:00pm at the Saugus-Everett Elks, located at 401 Main Street, Saugus, MA.
Rita’s legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
