Stephen Thomas Lachance

January 25, 1952, to October 18, 2023

Passed away after a lengthy illness, in the arms of his loving wife of 35 years, Joanne Wilson (Joanna-Mae). Stephen was an avid Sci-Fi fan; his love of all things Star Trek was well known by family and friends. He loved science and technology and was known as “Tek Guy” by his co-workers at Polaroid, Iron Mountain, and Fidelity Investments. When he was not dreaming of going to deep space, Stephen immersed himself in the Old West, reading Louie Lamour books, collecting Texas Rangers memorabilia, and watching John Wayne & Clint Eastwood movies. He tried as best as he could to be an avid sports fan, attending and watching games of the Montreal Canadiens, New England Patriots, and Boston Red Sox.

Family was everything to Stephen and sadly leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis & Jennifer Roy of Abbotsford B.C., grandchildren, Evan & Amber, his daughter, Cecile Keyes, of Abbotsford, B.C., grandchildren, Dustin, Eric, and Alyssa, his daughter and son-in-law, Robyn Lachance and Sam Warren of San Diego, CA., his nephew and niece, Chris & Sarah Lachance of Nepean, Ontario, great nephews, Henry, Charlie & Jack. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Bernie Robinson, his brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Marion Lachance, his sister and brother-in-law, Louella Eastman & Peter Boffa, and sister and brother-in-law, Lori Lachance & Cary Perrier, all from the Ottawa area. Stephen is predeceased by his loving parents, Nora and Hank Lachance of Nepean and his dearly missed brother Allan Lachance, of Ottawa. Stephen will also be missed by several nieces and nephews, Chantelle Peiroway , Cheryl Andrews, Curtis Geroux, Ben Eastman, Elizabeth Geroux, Alana Lachance, Thomas Lachance, Jake Lachance, and their families.

Stephen was raised in Elliot Lake, Ontario, where he attended school, got married, and had two children, Dennis, and Cecile, while working in the mines for a living. He lived in Ottawa for a brief period, but a treasured time, when he became a Dad for the third time to Robyn. He eventually moved to Massachusetts in 1988 where he spent the remainder of his life with his wife, Joanne, and more cats than he ever imagined that he could love. He spent the remainder of his work life in software quality assurance.

His American family also loved and will miss him. He was adored by his in-laws, Valore and Bushy Nelson of Connecticut, sister and brother in-law Beverly and Mark Leggitt of Connecticut, sister-in-law, Kathy Wilson of Delaware, and brother and sister-in law, Tom & Brenda Wilson of CT. He had numerous nieces and nephews that also touched his heart.

Stephen’s dream in life was to have his ashes sent into space. He never believed it could happen in his lifetime, but he will get his wish aboard an Enterprise Memorial Flight in the near future. A Celebration of Life will also be held in his honor prior to his launching into space. In his memory, kindly support any organization that looks for treatment / cures for Lewy-Body dementia, Parkinsons disease, Diabetes, or heart disease.
