Susan A. Casserly, 69, of Somerville, MA, passed away on April 22, 2024 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA surrounded by her family. She battled cancer for 18 years.

Susan was born in Cambridge, MA and lived in Somerville throughout her life. She was an extremely hard worker prior to her diagnosis in 2012. She dedicated many years to the service & hospitality industry, serving at various restaurants and as a chef at Tufts University. Additionally, she oversaw airport security as a manager at Logan Airport.

In her free time, Susan loved cooking for her family, especially her famous Sunday Sauce.  She also enjoyed watching movies and TV shows, with a special fondness for “The Walking Dead.” Susan loved music and attending concerts, especially the Concerts on the Common where she saw some of the greatest bands and musicians play.  She also adored and cherished her 2 sons and her 3 granddaughters.

Susan is survived by her 2 loving sons, Justin Ferrara and  Ryan Ferrara (wife, Lianna).  Susan leaves behind her mother, June Casserly and her 4 brothers: Donald Casserly, Thomas Casserly,  James Casserly (wife, Ann) and Paul Casserly (wife, Nina). Susan is the loving ‘Noni’ of Isabella, Gabriella and Vivian. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.  Susan was preceded in death by her father, Francis Casserly.

Susan’s family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at MGH for their care throughout her long battle with cancer and various forms of treatments, most notably Dr. Kuter and Dr. O’Brien who were her biggest advocates and who Susan regarded with the utmost respect and appreciation.

In accordance with Susan’s final wishes, no formal memorial services are planned, rather a gathering in celebration of her life will be planned for the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Susan’s honor
