Victor Merullo (1946-2023)

Victor E. Merullo, Jr. lovingly known as “Big Vic,” peacefully entered into eternal life on July 19, 2023, at the age of 77. Born and raised in Charlestown, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Victor and Dorothy (Loud) Merullo. He attended St. Francis de Sales parochial school and later graduated from Charlestown High School in 1964.

Big Vic was a proud Teamster, driving union strong for thirty years. He took great pride in one of his final runs, delivering steel beams to the new Foxboro Stadium, leaving his signature high within the walls of the house that Brady built. However, his true legacy lies within his children and grandchildren. Big Vic loved sharing stories of his glory days in football and hockey at Charlestown High. But, if you had a moment to spare, and a willing ear, his greatest joy came from talking about the accomplishments and travels of his beloved family.

Although he could be stubborn to a fault and a master of the eye roll, no eyes twinkled with joy brighter than his as Santa distributing gifts to the children of Charlestown down the Knights or at St. Francis. He will be deeply missed at parties, gracefully gliding across the dance floor, always teasing that his Townie family and friends never let him lead. His big grin was infectious and when he hugged you, he meant it, leaving you knowing you were loved.

Big Vic is survived by his dance partner of over 50 years, Bernadette (Collins) Merullo, his sons Victor and his wife Noreen, Christopher and his wife Christy, and his daughter Bernadette Eckhart and her husband Scott. He was the cherished brother of Dorothy Higgins and her husband Joseph and the late Carmine F. Merullo. Big Vic was a loving Grampy to Gabriella, Ann, and Jack, and “Big Vic” to Scott Eckhart Jr. and Jessica Monzione. He was also a great-grandfather to Natalya. Big Vic held a special place in the hearts of his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of services, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The American Lung Association in memory of Big Vic. Contributions can be made online at donate.cancer.org. May his spirit live on in our hearts forever.
