Lifelong Somerville resident

Passed away at home, December 26, 2017 after a short battle with cancer.

She leaves behind 3 children; Edward Jenkins of Somerville; Kenneth Jenkins and his wife Maureen of Wakefield and Cheryl D’Amelio (Jenkins) and her husband Mark, of Franklin. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Rachel D’Amelio of Franklin and Peter and John Jenkins of Wakefield. She is survived by two sisters; Lillian Crosman (Silliker) and her husband Larry of North Attleboro and Jane Brietzke (Silliker) and her late husband, Marty of Harwich, MA. She was the aunt to many nieces/nephews. She was the friend of many.

She was a voracious reader, active in various book clubs; lifelong member of the YMCA; long time donor of platelets to the Red Cross; community volunteer active with Project SCALE, Somerville Homeless Coalition and driving elders to appointments. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Medford and previously at Grace Baptist Church in Somerville. She loved to swim, travel, garden, and spend time with family and friends. She will greatly miss Josie, her cat. She lived life to its fullest and appreciated the smaller, simpler things in life. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 13, 2018, 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 29 Oakland Street, Medford MA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Virginia.
